Want to give everyone an update--Morgan (aka Dakar) is going to back out of the game.  She is a HS senior starting up soccer season/planning for her new free life without parents (at least she hopes Smiley)/and just got diagnosed with mono--which is kicking her butt.  Something has to give and this game is it.  I have asked a friend of Arpat's to step in and he has accepted the mission.  He just signed up as PtOr--and is currently digesting the back-story/getting to know Dakar.  He is excited--but new to the game (and also from Holland like Arpat so speaks English as a second language I am pretty sure)--so please be patient as he acclimates to this brave new world.  Jennaver will ghost the half orc until he is ready to step in...

And morgana, if you happen to read this at some point--thanks for playing with us for the time you did.  Maybe you can come back someday for another game...

Finally--a new post tonight that gets these lazy lounge lizards moving again!  Can't wait to throw some more foul demons your way...  Or something...

Luckily they are pretty much totally unnecessary in this room--you were not surprised and there really isn't anything of interest to hold someone's attention longer than a few seconds--which will not require a Fortitude roll given no-one was surprised about the smell (thanks to Dordolio's great roll to start).  Unless you are actually trying to have Sheen swim in the room.  That might lead to some problems  Cheesy

Now getting across the room and opening the door on the other side--that might be a problem...  Anybody have some Febreeze?

Quote from: Dordolio
"huh.. i remember that stench... there was nothing there... i'm not going to do that again... i will rush through the room as soon as the door on the other side is open..."

Hey!  You doing past life regressions there?  That memory was from the first game before we moved to the new forum Smiley  I was just reminding you out-of-character in case you were wondering...

Not a big deal really--just messing with you  Smiley

You guys did run into and identify the TROGLODYTE smell before (which is what this is.)  So I don't need the Knowledge, nature checks again.  I cut and pasted that description from the prior game without thinking about it--sorry about that...

I'll give everyone till tonight to add any role play here and then move through this room quickly tonight.  It is pretty much an empty room now--but is a good way to leave Obligate's room because of the stench keeping some creatures out of it and because it is an apparent dead end...  Start thinking about which direction you would like to move now that you will be back in the main entrance room (A2 on the map.)  Time for me to roll for random encounters....

I'm not going to get to an update tonight--the muse didn't hit me.  But looking forward to posting more of the story tomorrow night...  Anyone have any last words?

[Whisper]I do not know any binding spells.  Not really my cup of tea  He giggles at his own joke and see if anyone catches it

Taedyn does not appear to have heard Marakast's whisper or did not understand the Gnome's sense of humor...

Ok Klakxor Smiley  Me and Jennaver don't get this either.  What the heck is the joke??  Anybody else figure this out?

"I too support an aggressive stance towards potential hostiles....with an open eye for anybody or any "thing" that may be a resource, useful hostage or friend to the party.....  do any of our masters of magic have a binding spell? something that would isolate one creature from many while we secure a position by blood or negotiation?"

As Sheen is sharing his thoughts in the conversation, he is looking for a shirt or two or some medium weight scraps of fabric in the workshop areas.  If successful, he begins to make himself a pixie size handkerchief and a half-orc size one for Dakar.  He holds up the extra fabric and asks anyone if they would like one too.

"I am hoping that this will reduce personal damage to our party from bloodspill of the gaseous demons."  I will try to pay attention to the toxins that we are exposed to from here on out and the develop cures to help us heal more quickly."
i guess the joke starts here, with the remark of isolate one creature (by binding)
guess who he (marakast) has in mind when he makes the joke. :-)

nice image Cave_Lion :-) i like that short movie addition ( Bolt movie)

Mr. GM Sir,

I am not sure if I can see the section map very well but I think there are two doors or hallway entrances that lead into a hallway to the West and East off Room A18, am I correct?

That's right Anderlorn--as far as moving outward from the area you touched on two days ago there are those two doors in room A18 and then the secret door (that was open leading into a hallway) in room A20 (the room with the pile of dirt.)  Keeping in mind that it has been two days since you have visited any of these rooms and there was a demon horde moving through the area when you holed up in Obligates Room...

Arpat--still don't get the joke--tea is the opposite of binding isn't it usually?  What am I missing?

More of the quote:  "This isn't over. I will amass a larger, more deadly, unbeatable army of indestructible... "

and then the hamster-wolf seriously messes with him...  fun movie Smiley

Bolt was a fun movie.  Only saw it once so I do not have all of the lines memorized verbatim ... lol

Oh--I only saw it once too (not even actually--it was on in the background with my kids watching it while I was doing other things.)  I just remembered he was a pretty funny "take over the world" guy--and then did a quick search to get the pic and quote using my "Knowledge, computer use" skill  Cheesy

:-) the tea has nothing to do with i think.
the tea is from the expression. the joke is related to the first part only. (binding sheen)
but maybe the joker himself will explain?

if the joke is about binding spells and cup of tea then i am just as puzzled as you.

It's time for a Pinky and the Brain quote:
Pinky: Gee, Brain. What are we going to do tonight?
The Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world.

hehe--I still pull out that quote when people ask me what I am going to do today Smiley

Regarding TRAPS--this is a fairly complex topic and one I suspect Ameera (Iriana) is not prepared to deal with as far as game mechanics.  And realistically I am not sure of any easy way to have her set (I assume mechanical type) traps on each door?  I am certainly open to a player figuring out how to do this--but I don't think it is appropriate to just roll a generic skill check just because Ameera is a Rogue--this would need to be a specific Craft skill (at least Carpentry for something simple for example--or more appropriately "Craft, Trapmaking".)  Which no one has at this point...

This is something that Ameera (or someone else) could research and learn during downtime if she wants to try that--with the skill it would just be a matter of picking the DC (difficulty class) of the trap and then making the roll.  Assuming the ingredients are available.  I will allow that Ameera found a book on traps (the above link) to learn from.  But until she has a skill point in it she would not be able to do this as an untrained skill check.  You guys will be hitting level 3 here pretty shortly which will add some skill points to use for this.

This may be something you all would want to brainstorm about--as far as what kind of trap to use and how to go about gathering the materials needed to make them--there is a good supply of items in Obligate's cavern (and elsewhere) that could be used for this--but it is going to take some planning on your parts.

Keep in mind that the standard doors here (which is most doors) do not have locking mechanisms or even clasps of some kind--they just have the pull ring on both sides.  The easiest solution in many cases would be to just block the door from opening--the door you just went through could have this done with a hammer and a piton and a bit of elbow grease--but someone would have to do it from the other side (the direction it swings in) and then move through the other secret doors in Obligate's room to get back around.  But this would be a way to prevent random movement for the more simple demons--although it may also inspire a search to find out why the door is blocked...  Obligates area is particularly important of course--since you don't want to expose its existence to any other creatures.

Another very good option (yes I'm tired of waiting for Jennaver to take the time to go over Sheen's spells Smiley is Sheen's Permanent Image spell (1/day spell like ability).  If a creature doesn't see a door they won't try to open it...  This won't work for all creatures--but it will work for many.
